Late-game surge gives Cyclones the win

A batter at the plate.

The Cyclones were back at it again, in another high-scoring affair that saw them defeat Joliet Junior College 10-7.

The last time these two teams met in mid-March, the Cyclones lost by four. Not this time. Some late-inning antics helped the Cyclones surge past the Wolves. There was a brief exchange of the lead, but after five innings, the Wolves were up 5-4. In the Cyclones at-bat with two outs and two on, Jared Velez (2-for-5, RBI) singled in the tying run before Michael Swatkowski (2-for-5, 2 RBIs) hit a double to score the go-ahead. Christian Deshazer (1-for-1, 2 RBIs) continued the streak with a two-run double. To top off the inning, Joshua Keller (2-for-4, 2 RBIs) rocked a two-run homerun to left field.

Although the Wolves made some offensive moves in their next at-bat to close the gap, the Cyclones stopped any surge. The rest of the game was quick three up, three down for both teams until the end.

Will Swierczynski was the winning pitcher, throwing six innings and allowing five runs while striking out 10. Carter Benoit came in for the save, allowing two runs and striking out two.
