Big hits fall short in matchup with Cobras

A Moraine Valley baseball player is ready to swing the bat at the plate.

Even after accumulating a comparable number of runs, the Cyclones fell short in their doubleheader with Parkland College.

GAME ONE
The Cyclones collected eight hits to the Cobras' 10 but lost 17-4.

Several pitching and fielding errors did the Cyclones in this game, but their offense was on from the start. Michael Fiedor (2-for-3) singled to start the game followed by Valente Melero (1-for-2) being hit by a pitch before Christian Deshazer (1-for-3, 3 RBIs) drove them both in with a homerun, putting the Cyclones ahead 3-0. They added to their lead in the second inning after Michael Swatkowski hit a sac fly that scored Daniel Dalton (1-for-2), who tripled in his first at-bat. But that was the last time the Cyclones crossed the plate.

Two big innings from the Cobras saw them take the lead from the Cyclones, who were unable to make a solid come back.

GAME TWO
The second game had some competitive flair as the Cyclones earned all their runs in the fourth inning and held the lead until the final inning when the Cobras had a walk-off hit to deal Moraine Valley the 9-8 blow.

The Cobras led 5-0 until the Cyclone bats erupted and luck was on their side. Moraine Valley collected four walks, one batter was hit-by-a-pitch and the Cobras committed a fielding error to collect a few runs. Joshua Keller and Lucas Hicks (1-for-3, RBI) hit sac flies while Aiden Radtke (1-for-2, 2 RBIs) hit a two-run double to tally eight runs by the end. Although the Cobras countered with a homerun to get within one, the Cyclones held them until the bottom of the seventh when walks and a well-placed hit dealt them this unfortunate loss.
