Cyclones fall in nationals opener, relegated to consolation bracket

The Cyclones started their journey at the NJCAA Division II Championship against Cleveland Community College on March 16 but were unable to display their typical scoring prowess or force on the court, losing their opening game in their lowest turnout of the season – 55-46.

"Cleveland was quick and tough. We couldn't get the ball to drop and missed shots we've made all year," commented Head Coach Delwyn Jones in his third trip to nationals.

The Yetis knew the Cyclones' weakness and played on them, allowing the Cyclones to score just nine points in the first quarter. Moraine Valley bounced back in the next 10 minutes, getting within one (27-26). Although it was a balanced affair in the third quarter, a rough offensive final quarter hurt the Cyclones in this opening loss.

Jadea Johnson scored 11 points while Shakila Brownlow added nine points and grabbed eight rebounds. Laila Houseworth and Trajany Walker each had 11 rebounds.

With this loss, the Cyclones were relegated to the consolation bracket.
