In their collective return to the links since October, the Cyclones finished sixth at the Melee in Morris, a pre-tournament to the region championship next week.
This event, hosted at Nettle Creek Country Club in Morris, Illinois, was an extra workout for the Cyclones before they start their run at the NJCAA Region 4 Championship on Sunday. It included 11 teams from two- and four-year colleges and universities.
Coming out of the gate with a 72 was freshman Rory Moran, which placed him in a tie for third place out of 66 golfers. Putting up another nice score for the day was Joey Charleston with a 77 for 15th place followed by Fionn Gormley (89), Anderson Miz (89), Tayler Schade (89) and Dominick Rallo (94).
"We finished right in the middle for our team score, which isn't too bad," said Head Coach Matt Lovelace. "I think everyone played either around their average or better from the fall, which is great after sitting for so long."
The Cyclones will be back in action on Sunday and Monday in Byron, Illinois, for the region tournament, which determines what teams compete at nationals.
