Cyclone alumnus Hugh Dennehy returned to his roots in the 2016-17 season as the head baseball coach.
From 1988 to 1990, Dennehy played baseball under Coach Al Budding and football at Moraine Valley, where he was named Male Athlete of the Year (1990). He continued his education at Missouri Valley College in Marshall, Missouri, where he majored in math and played baseball.
For the past 13 years, Dennehy has coached travel baseball. He also was a head sophomore coach at Mount Carmel High School for six years. Dennehy coached most of the athletes who won State for Mount Carmel in 2013.
Some of Dennehy’s coaching background stems from what he learned while playing international rugby and Gaelic football. Through those experiences, he was introduced to influential coaches who taught him about training, coaching, strategy, etc.
Dennehy is in the process of earning a degree in fire science and sports administration with the goal to become a full-time teacher/administrator and coach after he finishes his firefighting career.
