These Cyclones are good, and now the proof is in the ranking. The NJCAA Division II put out a poll moving up the women's basketball team to No. 5 in the nation, the highest the program has been since the 1984-85 season.
With a few games left in the season, Moraine Valley has amassed a 19-1 record and is still undefeated in the Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference. They enjoyed a big jump in the poll after defeating a tough St. Louis Community College squad on Dec. 14. In recent years, the Cyclones have been ranked No. 13 and 14, but this latest position matches something they haven't accomplished since the '80s.
"At 19-1, I feel we deserve some recognition. We've beaten some pretty solid teams early. Region IV is very underrated every year, and it's good to not only get recognition for Moraine Valley, but also for our region and the Skyway conference," said Head Coach Delwyn Jones. "Not only is this team talented, this team does it the right way. They play hard, they are coachable, they are unselfish, and they get it done in the classroom at a very high rate. They are a pleasure to coach."
